The Bard

William Shakespeare grew up in a small town in 16th - century England. He loved to watch plays, so he movd to London when he was a young man and got a job as an actor. He also began to write plays of his own. In Shakespeare's time, play were performed in theaters with no electricity. Women were not allowed to act in plays, so female roles were played by boys wearing dresses. Shakespeare are called himself "The Bard" . He wrote some of the geatest plays of all time comedies, tragedies and histores. one of his most famous plays is the tragic love story called Romeo and Juliet. When he died in 1616, he left behind 19 plays, which been performed many millions of time for nearly 400 years.
